The Ashanti Regional library needs refurbishment to elevate it to a modern one, users of the facility have suggested.
Years after it was put up, the facility, which plays host to hundreds daily, is yet to see any major refurbishment.
Authorities at the facility have come under heavy criticism from the visiting public who continue to ask questions about its management.
Users of the facility have also questioned a 50p charge for all users, adding it contradicts the Ghana Library Authority (GLA) Act (327), which states, among others, “that a public library should be maintained by public funds (mostly income tax money), and no direct charge should be made to anyone for its services to fulfil its purposes, must be readily accessible, and its doors open for free and equal use by all members of the community regardless of race, colour, nationality, age, sex, religion, language, status or educational attainment.”
Maame Broni reports that majority of the library’s furniture are in a bad state with most of the louvre blades also broken, creating an inconvenience for users.
The issue of outmoded books at the facility, has also been raised severally.
