3 Ghanaians confirmed dead in Mecca

Three Ghanaians pilgrims have been confirmed dead in the Saudi Arabian capital, Mecca.

Another five are also reported missing, according to reports monitired by Adomonline.com.

The death of the three did not however arise from the stampede at Mina, close to Mecca which claimed hundreds of lives and left several others injured, according to the Chairman of the Hajj Board Alhaji Rauf Tanko.

He explained that one died from convulsion and the other two died of malaria and are currently at the morgue in Mina.

This comes after five Ghanaian Muslim pilgrims including a Hajj agent reportedly went missing at the Ghana camp at Mina in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

It has not been confirmed whether they were part of the stampede which killed over 700 people.

While confirming that some Ghanaians are missing, Alhaji Rauf blamed the missing pilgrims for flouting the laid down rules governing movement.

“If we knew where these people are, we won’t be suffering. When they are going out they won’t tell you because they paid for the hajj themselves. They go out and come back as and when they want” he bemoaned.

Alhaji Rauf Tanko said some of the pilgrims who come under the guise of performing the Hajj rather travel to Mecca to transact their own businesses.
