The President of China, Xi Jinping, has been re-elected as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to lead the party for the next term of five years.

The announcement was made on Wednesday at a press conference at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

As General Secretary of the CPC, President Xi is also an automatic member of the Standing Committee of the Central Political Bureau of the CPC according to the party’s constitution and by virtue of his position leads the other members.

The other six members of the Standing Committee including the Premier Li Keqiang were also introduced to the media.
