Kwesi Appiah’s appointment was greeted with optimism as fans believed he was the right man to improve the fortunes of the senior national team, Black Stars.

But with three months, Ghana continue to perform poorly on the FIFA ranking. The latest ranking released in August shows the Black Stars have maintained a disappointing 50th position.

The team was ranked 45th when Appiah took over but after winning only one game in his first three games, the Black Stars have fallen a further five places.

The Black Stars also stayed put as Africa’s ninth best national team.

However, Brazil, the first team to qualify for 2018 World Cup, have returned to the top after a one-month hiatus, replacing reigning FIFA World Cup champions Germany who slipped back into second spot.

Argentina remain in third but the heavyweight trio are accompanied in the top five by two sides reaching unusually high heights.

Egypt is Africa’s highest ranked team in the world despite slipping down one place to 25th.

And Namibia are the best movers of the month climbing up 20 places from 156 to 136.
