General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says President Akufo-Addo’s maiden budget statement has no hope for Ghanaians.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia claimed majority of the policies in the budget have been “sugar coated” to deceive the public.

General Mosquito as he is popularly called made the comment after Finance Minister, Ken Ofori delivered the government’s first budget in Parliament.

He stated among other things to abolishment and reduction of taxes which in his opinion was crippling the private sector of the economy.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, General Mosquito said in the history of budget statements in Ghana, this has been the worst budget.

In his view, the Finance Minister did not provide definite answers on when the tax reliefs announced in the 2017 budget statement would take effect.

The NDC scribe stated that majority of the supposed tax cuts is a clear case of robbing Peter to pay Paul.

He cited how government intends to reduce the monies allocated to the Get-Fund and District Assemblies Common Fund to supports its one-district one-factory policy to buttress his point.

This clever way by the Akufo-Addo government to deceive the public, General Mosquito stressed amounts to “Sakawa’.

He, however, commended government for initiating measures to start the national identification project to build a database of Ghanaians.

If the project is implemented successful, Mr. Asiedu Nketia said will help in the revenue collection in the country.
