Family of the 27 year old Richard Osei Yaw, who was allegedly brutalized to death by police officers in Krofrom -Kumasi in the Ashanti region, has rejected the presence of the National Police Band at the funeral of the young man who’s being buried today.
The Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye and KMA Boss Kojo Bonsu on their visit to the family house of the deceased to sympathize with them, promised to support the family during the funeral with the presence of the Police Band to treat mourners to good tunes of dirges.
But the angry family has warned that officers of the National Police Band will have themselves to blame if they attend the funeral service as their security cannot be guaranteed.
There has been tension between the family of Richard Osei Yaw and the police since the family believes the Police Command has shielded its officers who have been fingered for assaulting the young man to his untimely death.
There have been weeks of standoff between the Police and residents on the earlier autopsy report released that suggested the deceased also known as Kwadwo Tawiah died of of a congestive heart failure.
Residents took to the streets recently to create chaos amidst the raining of curses on the police following the turn of events, specifically on the post mortem report that exonerated the Police in the case.
But it’s quiet apparent that the family has accepted their fate on the sad incident and are ready to go ahead with the funeral rites and burial of the deceased albeit some contentions with the Police report received Tuesday.
Mother of the deceased, Adwoa Okyi told DailyViewgh.com that the family were stunned to find out in the police report that the deceased was a thief and was killed.
“I have nothing to say. Indeed when we got the report because we wanted to get the body so we could go ahead to bury my son, we decided to keep silent on the awful things filed in the Police report of my son. My son has never been a thief and even if he wants something he’ll make sure he seeks permission before taking it – It’s very clear the Police will want to escape being dealt with by government that is why they want to peddle falsehood about the death of my son after killing him.
“I leave everything to the deity in my hometown to deal with the Police. Besides I’m sure the ghost of my son Tawiah will come at them – each one involved will have his share of the punishment. He appeared in peoples dreams with Psalm 109 and I’m sure based on that he’ll avenge his death.
The late Tawiah would be buried in his hometown at Kyeransa, in the Ashanti region, the family says.
