Ghana’s female weightlifter, Ruth Baffoe, has picked three bronze medals in the women 53 kilograms category at the ongoing Africa Weightlifting Championship in Cameroon.

The competition which serves as a qualifier for the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympic Games saw the national female record holder picking medals from the 69kg snatch, 82kg clean and jerk.

Although her result does not guarantee a spot in the Rio Games, the team is hoping to get a slot for the multi-sports event after the end of the competition on May 13 and when the points accrued by six lifters from Team Ghana compete with the best five countries they get a slot.

“I was really glad to win medals in my categories though the competition is not difficult as compared to the AAG. But the preparation we had wasn’t enough, still I did my best in the weights not to come back home empty”, she told Starr Sports.

The Championship continues today in Cameroon and team Ghana is expected to produce more medals.
