Ghanaian league champions AshantiGold were beaten 3-1 by MO Bejaia in the second leg of the CAF Champions League qualifier and were eliminated 3-2 on aggregate.

The Miners had to remain solid and avoid defeat to book a place in the second round of the qualifiers but they were undone by an own goal in the first half to level the match at 1-1.

AshGold got a goal through Emmanuel Osei in the first half to put them through at half time.

But the Algerians found two goals in the second half through Hamzaoui and Khadir to send the Ghanaians out at the first hurdle.

The result means that a Ghanaian side will not be in the group stages of the CAF Champions League for the sixth straight year. Berekum Chelsea was the last Ghanaian team to play in the “money zone” of the competition.
