Court Rescinds Wisa’s Bench Warrant

The Accra Circuit Court trying musician Eugene Ashe popularly known as Wisa of Ekiki fame has rescinded a bench warrant issued for his arrest.

When the case was called on February 6, 2016, the video in which the musician allegedly showed his manhood, was to be shown but the accused was not in court forcing the court to issue a bench warrant for his arrest.
Wisa, who has been charged with indecent public exposure during a concert on Christmas Eve, later arrived in the company of his lawyer, Mr Jerry Avenorgbor after the court had gone on recess and the judge, Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, had retired to her chamber.

He quickly dashed out of the court room immediately he was informed that the court had issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

Making a case for the warrant to be withdrawn on Friday, Mr Avenorgbor told the court that the Ekiki Me hit maker experienced severe stomach aches on his way to court and, therefore, could not attend the proceedings on time.

“Unfortunately, the stomach aches delayed his appearance in court. I am, however, pleading that the warrant be withdrawn because my client has never missed a court appearance since the beginning of this case,” he said.

Mrs Adjin-Doku accepted his argument and withdrew the warrant, but she issued a stern warning to him to ensure that Wisa attends court proceedings on time.
Adjournment

The court, however, adjourned the case to February 24, 2016 owing to the absence of the investigator, Detective Chief Inspector Edward Adjei Odame.

Background

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Asante told the court that on December 25, 2015, the Accra Regional Police Command’s attention was drawn to a nude video posted on the Internet from an unknown source.

According to the prosecution, investigations into the case revealed that on December 24, 2015, Airtel Telecommunications Company and Citi FM had organised a Christmas party at the AICC, with Wisa as the guest artiste.

In the course of the event, Wisa was ushered to perform on the main stage, together with a female dancer.

Chief Inspector Asante said during his performance, Wisa stood behind the female dancer as they danced together and suddenly he removed his penis to stroke the buttocks of the dancer with his manhood, in the full glare of the audience.

He has been charged with indecent exposure which is a misdemeanour.
