PHOTOS: Rawlings, Akufo-Addo cause traffic jam in Akropong

The presence of former President J. J. Rawlings and the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, created a massive human traffic within the vicinity of the Okuapehene’s palace in Akropong on Thursday.

The two personalities, as though in a pre-arranged fashion, arrived moments of each other, sending jolts of excitement among the gathering of chiefs and other high ranking members gathered at the forecourt of the palace.

The number of people who rushed in different directions at the mention of the name of ex-President Rawlings, followed immediately by that of Nana Akufo Addo, caused what had been described as the worst human gridlock to have occurred in Akropong since the Okuapehene was laid in state.

Oseadeeyo Addo Dankwa III, the Paramount Chief of the Akuapem Traditional Area, died at the age of 85, after ruling for 41 years.

A week’s celebration of his life is currently being observed in the traditional area.

Former President Rawlings was accompanied by his wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, and Mr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, the Minister of Trade and Industry.

Nana Akufo-Addo was also accompanied by his wife and his running mate, Dr Bawumia.

The enhanced security system, ably managed by the policemen detailed at the funeral grounds, displayed a high sense of civility in handling even the most difficult situations with calm and professionalism.

After viewing the remains of the late chief, former President Rawlings and Nana Akufo-Addo exchanged pleasantries, to the delight of the good number of people who had gathered at the place.
